Approximately a year ago, in April 2024, rumors regarding the elder statesman’s death circulated in various news outlets.
At that time, he refuted the claims, affirming that he was in good health.
“I’m still here, not yet gone,” he stated.
He also expressed concern over the rumors, questioning the inevitability of death, and remarked, “Those who spread news of death and the person presumed dead will all face mortality one day.
“I’ve been fortunate. My father passed away at 42, while my mother lived to 102. I am now 89, having surpassed the average life expectancy.”
The elder statesman also recounted how rumors of his death had circulated on June 7, 2022.
