Dissappointment As Court Dismisses Bobrisky’s Fundamental Rights Suit
Okuneye Idris Olanrewaju, also known as Bobrisky, filed a fundamental rights lawsuit against the National Assembly and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, but it was dismissed by a Federal High Court in Lagos.
Bobrisky had demanded N1 billion from the National Assembly for the “violation of his right to a fair hearing” and N200 million from the EFCC for “psychotic trauma.”
Additionally, he asked the court to prevent the National Assembly and the EFCC from “harassing, detaining, or declaring him wanted.”
After social media influencer Martins Otse released an audio recording claiming that Bobrisky paid the EFCC N15 million to have money laundering charges against him dropped, he became embroiled in controversy.
In his ruling on November 28, 2024, Justice Alexander Owoeye declared that Bobrisky’s allegations of rights violations were without merit and were not backed up by reliable evidence.
The EFCC’s Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale, said in a statement on Friday:
“Having evaluated the evidence placed before this Court by the Applicant, it is evident that the Applicant has failed to provide credible evidence to justify the award of the declaratory and injunctive reliefs sought by him.
“I hold that the claims of violation of fundamental rights against the 1st and 2nd Respondents were not made out of the affidavit evidence placed before this Court.
“The Applicant’s claims against the 1st and 2nd Respondents lack merit and are accordingly dismissed.”
In addition, Justice Owoeye refused to award damages against the EFCC.
