Again Deputy Speaker Begs Tinubu To Release Nnamdi Kanu

Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Benjamin Kalu has urged President Bola Tinubu to release Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the embattled Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), from detention.
The IPOB leader has been in detention since he was extradited from Kenya to Nigeria under controversial circumstances in June 2021.
He is being prosecuted by the Nigerian government before a federal high court in Abuja on terrorism charges. Kalu made this appeal to reporters on Wednesday after the first meeting of the Southeast Development Commission (SEDC) House of Representatives Committee at the National Assembly building in Abuja.
‘We appeal to him to temper justice with mercy and release Nnamdi Kanu to the people of the Southeast. Doing so will ensure the safety of our people and facilitate the development that this SEDC will bring.”
We realized that Nnamdi Kanu’s release would reduce security in the area. We want Nnamdi Kanu released.
President Tinubu proved his love for the residents of the southeast by quickly agreeing to the Southeast Development Commission bill, which failed in the previous Congress.
Kalu also suggested adopting a political approach to solving the region’s crisis instead of the current legal options, adding that if that becomes a reality, the people of the region will be eternally grateful to the president.
Using the president as an excuse, he said, “Those who are committing criminal acts in our area will have no other reason to be on the streets. Then the police and security agencies will catch those who claim that Nnamdi Kanu is the reason for harming the people of the southeast. The president is the commander in chief.”
What we are saying is use the political approach, not the legal approach.
