Engr. Udengs Eradiri, a former Labour Party (LP) candidate in the November 11, 2023, Bayelsa State gubernatorial election, and his running mate, Commodore Benjamin Nathus (retd), have announced their departure from the party.

According to Didactic Information Hut, Eradiri and Nathus were joined in leaving the party by the majority of the state’s local government chairmen.
In a letter dated December 8, 2024, Eradiri informed the party’s state chairman in Yenagoa, the capital of Bayelsa State, of his resignation.

In the letter titled: “Letter of Withdrawal as Labour Party Member,” Eradiri said he made the choice to allow him to pursue a political career on a platform that is equipped to offer Bayelsa the kind of leadership that the province deserves.

The former candidate thanked the party members for supporting him as their governorship candidate and for believing in his vision for a brighter Bayelsa.

“But unfortunately, we couldn’t scale through the intrigues and challenges implanted in the party leadership”, he said.

He noted that it was a great moment working together politically and traversing the nooks and crannies of the state in the quest for leadership, adding that his decision was supported by his loyalists.

Eradiri further disclosed that he was undergoing serious consultations to decide the next political platform that would enable him provide service to the people.

“We are consulting seriously and engaging all stakeholders to know the next political party to join. Our next party of interest will be such that will enable us to provide service to the people and move Bayelsa forward”, he stated.

For his part, Nathus in his resignation letter, said the move was borne out of his decision to seek a platform committed to a leadership that would propel Bayelsa towards a brighter and more prosperous future.

“I am profoundly grateful for the support and camaraderie of the party members who have shared in our vision for a thriving Bayelsa and graciously provided me the opportunity to serve as a deputy governorship candidate. The journey has been enriched with invaluable experiences and insights,” he said.

The former LP running mate said he was honoured to work with dedicated colleagues and for engaging deeply with communities in the pursuit of transformative governance.
