The Police Says Convoy Of President’s Wife Not Involved In Road Accident

The Ondo State Police Command has clarified that the convoy of the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, was not implicated in a vehicular accident that resulted in the death of a seven-year-old girl in Akure, the state capital, on Thursday, April 17, 2025.
In a statement, the Command’s spokesperson, Olusola Ayanlade, indicated that the First Lady was in the state that day to distribute empowerment kits and equipment.
“Eyewitness reports and initial investigations by the Ondo State Police Command have established that the incident was caused by a hit-and-run driver in an unregistered white Lexus vehicle, and not by any vehicle affiliated with the First Lady’s convoy,” the police stated.
The statement continued, “A witness who saw the hit-and-run immediately pursued the fleeing vehicle on a motorcycle after the incident, which took place in the Oba Ile area of Akure. These observations have been confirmed by multiple individuals present at the scene, including the parents of the victim.
The Commissioner of Police for the Ondo State Command was on-site and met with the grieving family to ensure a thorough and transparent investigation. At no time was the First Lady’s convoy connected to this unfortunate event.
The Command expressed condolences to the bereaved family and called on the public to assist in bringing the hit-and-run driver to justice.
Additionally, we encourage anyone with pertinent information to come forward or report to the nearest police station or security post as we seek to apprehend the perpetrator.
