Senate To Begin Screening Of Ministerial Nominees Today

The Senate will today begin its screening of the seven ministerial nominees announced by President Bola Tinubu.
This follows President Tinubu’s earlier request to the Senate to approve the new ministerial nominees.
Senator Basheer Lado, Special Advisor to the President for Senate Affairs, confirmed in a statement on Monday that the ministerial nominees have begun their paperwork prior to their screening and approval by the Senate.
He said the nominees have already submitted the relevant documents as the first step in a series of procedures for the vetting and approval of ministerial nominees.
The nominated ministers will be subject to screening and approval by the Senate in accordance with Section 147 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended).
The President had sent a letter to the Senate last week, hours after nominating the seven ministerial nominees, asking senators to screen and approve the seven nominees.
They include Nentawe Yilwatda (Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction), Muhammadu Dingyadi (Labour & Employment), Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu (State Foreign Affairs), and Jumoke Oduwole (Industry, Trade and Investment).
Others are Idi Mukhtar Maiha (Livestock Development), Yusuf Ata (State, Housing and Urban Development), and Suwaiba Ahmad (State Education).
The confirmation request to the Senate follows a recent cabinet reshuffle by President Tinubu. The President sacked five of his ministers, redeployed 10 of them, and appointed seven others.
