Pregnant Women In Abuja To Enjoy Free Health Insurance, Caesarean Section

The administration of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has announced a complimentary health insurance program and free caesarean sections for all pregnant women residing in the region.
Adedolapo Fasewa, the Mandate Secretary for Health at the FCTA, made this announcement on Monday during the observance of World Health Day 2025 at the Gwarimpa District Hospital in Abuja.
Fasewa noted that to qualify for the free caesarean section, pregnant women must enroll in the FCT Health Insurance Scheme (FHIS), which also provides infant care services following childbirth.
Additionally, she highlighted that Nigeria has the highest maternal mortality rate in the sub-Saharan region.
However, Fasewa emphasized that the current administration is committed to addressing this issue and is implementing measures aimed at reducing maternal mortality and improving infant survival rates.
She encouraged all women to take advantage of the free health insurance program, asserting that the battle against maternal mortality is a collective responsibility that extends beyond the Federal Government.
