Police Arrest Prophet For Allegedly Defiling 12-Year-old Girl
A 38-year-old prophet of the Cherubim and Seraphim Church, identified as Abimbola Oluwafemi, was arrested in the Ijebu Igbo area of Ogun State for allegedly defiling a 12-year-old girl in the name of performing a spiritual cleansing ritual.
According to a report by Didactic Information Hut, Oluwafemi allegedly took advantage of the minor while performing the ritual on the riverbank at about 2 pm.
Police spokesman, Omolola Odutola, who confirmed his arrest on Sunday, said the mother of the child, a member of the church, reported the incident to the Ijebu Igbo Division of the command.
According to Odutola, the mother said the prophet tricked and convinced her that her daughter needed a spiritual bath to avoid future calamities. She said the prophet deceptively convinced her that a spiritual bath was necessary to avert the calamity foretold to happen in her daughter’s future.”
Tragically, the suspect allegedly took advantage of the minor during this so-called ritual, which took place on the riverbank at about 2 pm. Upon receiving the report, officers of the Gender Division of the Ogun State Police Command quickly arrested the suspect.
The survivor was transported to Medicare Hospital in Ijebu Igbo where medical evidence is being collected for the ongoing investigation.
Odutola, however, revealed that preliminary findings indicate a worrisome level of neglect and lack of parental attention, as the mother entrusted the child to the suspect without due care and attention.
She added, “Investigators are also looking into the prophet’s background, which states that he leads a congregation of about 100 people, looking for evidence of similar facts.” Meanwhile, she urged parents to remain vigilant and protect their children from suspicious individuals, especially those who exploit their religious beliefs for financial gain.
