Police Advise Bank Users Against ATM Fraudsters
The Nigeria Police Force’s Yobe State Command has issued advice on how bank customers can protect themselves from ATM Fraudsters.
This came after its agents recently arrested three suspects for their roles in a criminal syndicate that preyed on state ATM users, marking a major victory in the battle against cybercrime and related crimes.
DSP Dungus Abdulkarim, the command’s public relations officer, issued the safety guidelines with the intention of assisting the public in avoiding becoming victims of ATM fraud and other associated crimes.
The command advised the public to always use secured automated teller machines and to be mindful of their surroundings. It recommended, among other things, that ATM users cover the keypad when entering their PIN in order to hide the code from prying eyes.
Additional advice for bank customers includes avoiding using debit cards that show evidence of tampering, sticking to chip-enabled debit cards, keeping their PIN private and never disclosing it to third parties, and avoiding using PINs that are simple to figure out.
“By following these safety tips, you can significantly reduce your risk of falling victim to ATM fraud and related crimes,” DSP Abdulkarim stated.
