The Akwa Ibom State government is to pay N80,000 as its new minimum wage for civil servants in the State.

The announcement was made by the Commissioner of Information, Mr. Ini Ememobong, who emphasized that the wage increase reflects Governor Umo Eno’s dedication to improving the livelihoods of Akwa Ibom State workforce.

This decision follows an earlier setting up of a 15-member implementation committee led by the Head of the Civil Service, Elder Effiong Essien, to oversee the seamless rollout of the new wage policy.

Similarly, Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi State has also approved 75,000 naira as a new minimum wage for the state civil servants.

This was confirmed by the chairman of the Nigerian Labour Congress in the state, Murtala Usman.

“Mr Governor has shown that he is with the workers in the state. We proposed three tables for him.
We proposed 72,000, 73,000, and 75,000 naira and he decided to go for the 75,000 naira, which shows he is for the workers.

“To crown it all, he also said the payment starts this month of October, salaries which he categorically said should be made available to workers in the next 72 hours,” he added.
