The Federal Government’s distribution of ₦25,000 to 25 million Nigerians in its conditional cash transfer scheme has been greeted with mixed reactions.

Didactic Information Hut recalls that the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, had disclosed this while briefing State House Correspondents shortly after the National Economic Council meeting chaired by Vice President Kashim Shettima.

He listed the steps taken by President Bola Tinubu’s administration to provide relief for Nigerians due to the sufferings caused by the removal of subsidies and other policy reforms being implemented by the government.

According to him, five million households have benefited from the direct transfer.

He also disclosed that in the last five days,  no fewer than 11,000 beneficiaries have received ₦3.5 billion from the consumer credit scheme.

He added that over ₦90 billion has so far been disbursed to half a million Nigerian students under the student loan scheme.

But in a quick reaction, some Nigerians condemned what they described as a palliative style of the Tinubu Government as well as the data of beneficiaries insisting that such funds end up with no meaningful or sustainable impact on the beneficiaries as many are also embezzled by those in charge.

They advised that the huge amounts spent on socalled palliatives should have been better channelled into other areas that will bring sustainable good to the poor and ordinary people in Nigeria.
