Mass Defection Hits Anambra APC After Controversial Guber Primaries

Following disputes related to the conduct of the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primary election, numerous party members in Anambra State have begun to leave in significant numbers.
At least six local government party chairpersons have resigned from their positions and departed from the party.
Additionally, many other party officials at the ward level have also exited in protest against the election results, which saw Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu selected as the candidate, while three aspirants withdrew from the race in dissent.
Resignation letters provided to journalists highlighted concerns regarding the primary election’s management.
Didactic Information Hut has reported that the wave of resignations is not solely attributed to the election’s conduct but also to the recent defection and subsequent election of Sir Paul Chukwuma, a former APC aspirant, to the Young Progressives Party (YPP).
Among those who have left the APC are key stakeholders and leaders from Nnewi South and Nimo in Njikoka Local Government Area, among others.
Other local government areas experiencing resignations include Ihiala, Ogbaru, Oyi, Anambra East, and Dunukofia.
Tochukwu Okeke, a member from Ihiala who also switched parties, stated, “I am leaving to join the YPP. Since Chukwuma, who has been a cornerstone of the party, could depart in this manner, there is no reason for us to stay.
“If they can treat Chukwuma, a significant stakeholder and benefactor of the party for many years, in such a way, then they clearly have no respect for any of us.”
