It’s A Treasonable Offence To Illegally Dissolve LG Councils – Fagbemi

The Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, has characterized the unlawful dissolution and takeover of local government administration by state governors as a treasonous act.
Fagbemi made this assertion on Wednesday during the inaugural session of an event hosted by the Nigeria Bar Association in Abuja.
Speaking on his behalf, Tijani Gazali, the Director of Civil Appeals in the ministry, emphasized that despite the Supreme Court’s ruling and constitutional provisions designed to prevent state governors from interfering in local government operations, certain governors and their state assemblies persist in dissolving elected local government councils without adhering to constitutional guidelines.
Furthermore, he criticized the Attorney General and Commissioners for Justice at the state level for failing to provide appropriate legal counsel to their governors and advocated for severe penalties for any governor who continues to engage in such unlawful activities.
