Tottenham scored three goals in eight second-half minutes to beat West Ham 4-1 on Saturday, looking to ease the sting of their loss to Brighton.

The two teams were level at halftime at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, with Dejan Krusevski brilliantly cancelling out Mohamed Koudous’s opener.

However, the complexion of the game changed early in the second half when Yves Bissouma, an own goal by West Ham goalkeeper Alphonse Areola, and a fourth goal by Son Heung-min.

Ange Postecoglou’s Spurs won their third game in four Premier League matches and moved up to sixth in the standings before kickoff later in the day, but the pressure was on for new West Ham coach Julen Lopetegui.

Spurs’ victory came after a 3-2 loss to Brighton in their final league game before the international break, which gave them a 2-0 lead.

“Second half was outstanding from the lads — good energy, good goals, good football, probably should have created a couple more,” said Tottenham’s Australian manager Postecoglou.

“That’s what you want to generate at home. The crowd played their part…. We’ve had periods so far this year when we haven’t capitalised but today we did capitalise and if we continue that then we will be hard to stop.”
