If Sharia Is Introduced In Yorubaland, It Will Ignite War–Chief Imam Of Yorubaland
The Chief Imam of Yorubaland, Sheik Abdulraheem Aduanigba, said the practice of Sharia will never work in Yourubaland. Sheik Abdulraheem Aduanigba said this in a viral video, warning that any attempt to impose Sharia on the people of the six southwestern states could lead to war.
Citing many reasons that make Shariah unworkable in the region, he said that the three religions-Christianity, Islam, and traditional religion-are separate, and any attempt to impose Shariah on a population of 27 million Christians and 10 million traditional worshipers would spark discord and confusion.
He stressed that Muslims are not dominant in the region and that introducing Sharia would lead to war. His view contradicts that of the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III.
According to the Chief Imam, “Shari’ah does not work in Yorubaland. When it comes to Yoruba, there are three different religions. The original religion of Yorubaland is the traditional religion before the advent of Christianity. Christianity came and Islam was born. Today Yorubaland has 27 million Christians, 23 million Muslims, and 10 million traditional worshippers. Yorubaland today has 972 traditional rulers. There are currently 972 traditional rulers in Yorubaland. So if we say that we should implement sharia, that would be in contradiction to the system we have used in our own laws.”
He added: “We in the Southwest know that there are those who celebrate masquerade festivals, those who celebrate Christmas and Easter, those who celebrate Ramadan and Ireya. So if some of us in Yoruba would use Shariah, Shariah means that women should cover their heads, and we would start fights with women who do not cover their heads. Yorubaland cannot allow such a system.”

After that, they will tell those who want to divide their heritage in the Islamic way to do so. If they apply that, then in Yorubaland they could have children whose fathers are both Christians, Muslims, and traditional religion worshippers.
If the Muslim father dies and some of his children convert to Christianity, then in Yorubaland all of those children would get their inheritance.” But if you apply Sharia, the Sharia court will say that the child has left Islam and therefore has no right to inherit the estate of his deceased father as a Muslim. Therefore, Sharia cannot be used in Yorubaland if one does not want to cause war.
