I Trust God Because of My Father’s Faith – Davido
Nigerian musician David Adeleke, better known by his stage name Davido, has credited his father’s teachings on faith and a firm belief in God with helping him remain resilient in the face of adversity.
The Afrobeat singer recently discussed his upbringing in a pious Christian home and the impact his father’s religious teachings have had on his perspective in a podcast interview with Rollingout.
“My dad is very successful, but he’s an elder in the church. I grew up as a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. I attended a Christian college,” Davido shared, describing the foundation of faith built during his formative years.
Davido mentioned how his father’s advice has given him strength in trying times, especially when it comes to accepting life’s challenges without doubting God.
“I overcame a lot of challenges because of my dad. Initially, I did not understand, but now I’ve come to the realization. I was angry. Sometimes, I was like, ‘Why do bad things happen to good people?’ And my dad told me that you can’t question God,” the Singer singer recalled.
Davido further spoke about the tragic loss of his son, Ifeanyi, and how his faith journey shifted after the devastating event.
“I was like, ‘What do you mean you can’t question God?’ And then a year later, we had twins, the biggest album of my career came, and my first Grammy nominations came. Then it started to make sense,” he said.
He emphasized that although life has its own set of difficulties, he has learned from his father’s faith-based teachings that tenacity and faith in God’s timing will eventually pay off.
“People go through different challenges, but just know that God has your back,” he concluded.
