Former Miss Nigeria, Edna Ibru has died in London after a brief illness. Mrs. Ibru, who died Wednesday, was the wife of the late Felix Ibru, the first executive Governor of Delta State.

She won the Miss Nigeria pageant in 1964 at the age of 19 and represented Nigeria at the Miss World pageant in the United States that same year.

Her son, Paul Aide Ibru, released a statement Saturday announcing her passing. In the statement, he shared his memories of his mother, highlighting her many accomplishments and the impact she had on those around her.

“Our wonderful mother departed into glory on January 15, 2025, after a brief illness. Until her passing, we had no idea that our mother would leave this world so soon, but we cannot doubt God’s will in her precious life. She was a lover and mediator, a mother of many, outrageously humorous, deeply compassionate, down to earth, and always full of stories. We will miss her terribly.”

An accomplished businesswoman, the deceased trained as a fashion designer and hairdresser and owned a hair salon in England called Sherina Hair Care, and in a 2017 interview with Thisday, she said, ”If I died today, Where do you think you would go?” she famously replied, ”I’d go to the beach. But what I want when I die is good music’.
