FG To Commence New Education Curriculum in January 2025
The Federal Ministry of Education announced Monday that the new basic education curriculum will begin in schools nationwide by January 2025.
Minister of Education, Tahir Mamman, who made the disclosure at a stakeholders’ meeting on the implementation of the new curriculum held in Abuja, said the new curriculum for higher education will also begin by September 2025.
Prof. Mamman said that the new curriculum will address the learning crisis and employment issues by equipping students with 21st century skills.
He added that the next three months will be devoted to preparatory steps, including the development of a teacher’s guide for using the curriculum.
Dr. Garba Gandu, director of curriculum at the Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council (NERDC), said that since the new curriculum includes 15 newly introduced trade He explained that the new curriculum will provide prerequisite skills and training to enhance global competitiveness, as it includes 15 new trade courses in basic education.
These subjects are basic digital literacy, such as information technology, and vocational entrepreneurial skills, such as building and construction, plumbing, and tiling.
Also included are hospitality, such as hair styling and make-up, and service trades, such as construction, GSM repair, satellite and CCTV installation and maintenance, and garment making.
