The Federal Government has donated N30 million to the family of the late Pa Taiwo Akinkunmi, the renowned designer of the Nigerian flag, two years after his death.
The Director General of the National Orientation Agency, Lanre Issa-Onilu, accompanied by the Oyo State Commissioner, Olukemi Afolayan, formally presented the check on behalf of the Federal Government at the residence of the late national hero in Erebu, Ibadan.
According to the Didactic Information Hut, late Akinkunmi passed away on August 29, 2023, at the age of 87. On September 4, 2023, President Bola Tinubu received a government delegation led by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Maraghi, for condolence and promised to give the late Nigerian hero a state funeral and financial assistance to his family.
The NOA General Director General stated that “the donation of N30 million to the family of the renowned flag designer is not to honor the deceased’s achievements, but to assist the bereaved family in appreciation of his contributions to the country.”
Akinwunmi Akinkunmi, one of the deceased’s sons, expressed his gratitude to Tinubu.
