BREAKING: Tinubu Assents Bill To Establish University in Ogoni

President Bola Tinubu has signed a bill establishing the Federal University of Environment and Technology to be located in Tai, Ogoniland.

The bill was sponsored by Senator Barry Mpigi who represents Rivers South-East Senatorial District in the national assembly.

The presidential assent was revealed on Monday in a brief statement released by the Office of the President via the X-platform social media account. The statement states that this is the fulfillment of a promise made by President Tinubu. “Promise Kept. Assented into Law by President Bol. The Federal University of Environment and Technology (Tai) Establishment Bill 2024,” the State House statement read.

According to the Didactic Information Hut, President Tinubu had recently called on the people of Ogoniland to forget their historical grievances and give peace a chance.

President Tinubu made this call when he met with a delegation of Ogoni people, leaders, and government officials at Aso Rock Villa, promising to prioritize peace, justice, and sustainable development in the region.

During the meeting, which was also attended by the Governor of Rivers State, Sim Fubara and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, President Tinubu made a passionate call for unity and reconciliation, stressing that wounds cannot be healed if anger remains.

President Tinubu directed National Security Advisor Nuhu Ribadu to coordinate the negotiations and called for comprehensive consultations and mutual understanding.

According to a statement by Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu’s Special Advisor for Intelligence and Strategy, the President commended the delegation for embracing the federal government-led dialogue and stressed the need for cooperation, trust, and inclusiveness to resolve the remaining problems in the region.
