Godwin Emefiele, a former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria has been disclosed to be the owner of the recently forfeited 753 duplexes in Abuja. According to a court ruling on Monday, 753 duplexes have been forfeited to the Nigerian government via the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Omoyele Sowore, a human rights advocate and organizer of the #RevolutionNow Movement, verified the development in a social media post.
Emefiele is on trial at the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, High Court in Maitama, Abuja, on a number of corruption-related charges, including the redesign of the new naira.

In order to continue the trial, Justice Maryann Anenih postponed the case until December 4, 2024, and January 21, 2025.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had previously come under fire from Sowore for failing to identify the former Nigerian “top brass” who controlled the expansive estate in Abuja that contained 753 duplexes.
Sowore, the former African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate in the general elections of 2023, said on Monday that the EFFC has become their public relations officer and is now terrified of big thieves.

In an update, the human rights activist said, “I just heard from the grapevine that the 753 duplexes forfeited by an FCT court in Apo belong to Muhammadu Buhari’s CBN gov, Godwin Emefiele.”

According to Didactic Information Hut, on Monday, Justice Jude Onwuegbuzie issued an order for the final forfeiture of a 150,500-square-meter estate in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, that included 753 duplexes and other apartments.
In a press statement, the EFCC stated that this was the Commission’s biggest asset recovery since its founding in 2003.
The estate is located in the Lokogoma District of Abuja on Plot 109 Cadastral Zone C09.
Sowore claims that the same EFCC that boldly and without a court trial started publishing the names and pictures of yahoo boys flaunting their laptops and tiny Nokia phones, purposefully refused to name the 753 duplexes in Abuja that were seized.

Sowore, who said this in a post on his verified social media account wrote, “What is the name of the “former top brass” with 753 duplexes seized by the EFCC in Abuja?

“The @officialEFCC is now doing PR for thieves. They seized this large estate with 753 duplexes from a single individual in Abuja but can’t mention his or her name.

“If it is Yahoo boys, they will line laptops and Nokia phones in front of them and send their photos globally even before their trial is commenced. The same EFCC is now AFRAID of BIG Thieves!”
