EdoDecides2024: Gov Obaseki Forced Out Of INEC Collation Centre
There was a mild drama in the early hours of Sunday following the unlawful presence of Edo State Governor, Mr Godwin Obaseki at the Election Results Collation Centre in Benin, the State Capital.
Didactic Information Hut gathered that Mr.Obaseki had sneaked into the INEC Premises in what appears to be a desperate bid to either influence the results to favour his candidate or prevent his opponents from rigging. And went straight upstairs, sitting close to the Edo REC’s office where the results were being collated before they would be announced.
However, a massive protest from APC Supporters led by APC Deputy Governorship Candidate, Hon Dennis Idahosa at the gate of INEC led the forceful removal of Mr Obaseki from the INEC Premises following the intervention of DIG Frank Mba.
It was further gathered that as Gov Obaseki was being escorted out of the premises, mobile policemen deployed to the INEC office shouted at Him, saying, “Leave, leave.”
Meanwhile, Alhaji Surajudeen Basiru, who later addressed journalists on the matter said that the governor had no reason to be on the premises.
Basiru said, “He is not a candidate. He has no reason to be here”, describing the governor’s action as abuse of office.
