Edo State Governorship Election Holds Today
The much anticipated governorship election in Edo State holds today, 21st September 2024. The election is believed to be a three horse race among the candidates of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Mr. Asue Ighodalo, All Progressives Congress, APC, Senator Monday Okpebholo and the Labour Party, LP, Barr Olumide Akpata.
Ahead of the Edo State Governorship Election, there has been a running battle of accusations between the APC and the PDP on alleged rigging plans and use of federal might. However, the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has promised to conduct a free, fair and credible election.
It is also expected that the electorate will come out enmass to exercise their franchise, and that the security agencies will deal decisively with trouble makers.
Meanwhile, all the three top contenders have expressed optimism at emerging victorious in the election.
Didactic Information Hut reports that there are 18 registered parties participating in the Edo State Governorship Election. Early reports from Edo State indicate late commencement of polling in major parts of the State has security agents to escort INEC Adhoc Staff and voting materials arrived behind schedule.
