The President of the United States, Donald Trump, is contemplating the implementation of a travel ban affecting nearly half of the countries in Africa.

A significant portion of the 43 nations identified in the proposal are located in Africa.

According to a document released by The New York Times, an internal proposal from Trump outlines the countries whose citizens may encounter restrictions when attempting to enter the United States.

Somalia, Libya, and Sudan are categorized as ‘Red’ (where all travel is prohibited).

Countries classified under ‘Orange’ (where visa access is severely limited) include Eritrea, Sierra Leone, and South Sudan.

Those listed as ‘Yellow’ (which have 60 days to resolve specific issues) comprise Angola, Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Cape Verde, Chad, the Republic of Congo, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Equatorial Guinea, The Gambia, Liberia, Malawi, Mali, Mauritania, São Tomé and Príncipe, and Zimbabwe.

This potential action recalls President Trump’s earlier travel ban during his first term, which targeted seven predominantly Muslim countries and underwent multiple revisions before being upheld by the Supreme Court in 2018.
