Former militant leader, Asari Dokubo has reaffirmed his claim that Nigerian Army officials are behind oil bunkering in the Niger Delta.

Asari, speaking at a press conference at the direction of President Bola Tinubu, accused soldiers of oil bunkering in the region.

In June, former President Asari claimed that most of the oil thefts recorded in the Niger Delta were committed by the Nigerian Army and Navy.

Asari made this known after meeting with Tinubu at the presidential palace in Abuja.

Addressing State House Correspondents, Asari said: “The military is at the centre of oil theft and we have to make this very clear to the Nigerian public that 99 per cent of oil theft can be traced to the Nigerian military, the Army and the Navy especially.”

The former militant leader further said that ethnic nationalities are not responsible for oil bunkering in the Niger Delta region.

In his latest video, Asari said: “It’s the president I’m talking about and since they don’t want us to keep secret; I won’t. It’s the president that asked me to talk to the press.

“If they ask me the root cause of bunkering, I shouldn’t talk? Should I be afraid of calling those behind bunkering?

“It’s not Ijaw, Ikwerre, or Ogoni boys that are involved in bunkering. It’s the people in the military that pay them to carry out bunkering, they collect their own and give the boys peanuts.

“Everybody knows it but because we are afraid of coup, they are keeping quiet.”
