Anambra Poll: Aspirants Desert PDP As No One Buys Nomination Forms As deadline Elapses

As the Peoples Democratic Party concludes the sale of its N40 million expression of interest and nomination forms for the forthcoming Anambra governorship election, no candidates have yet emerged to acquire them.
The party had originally planned to sell the forms from February 24 to March 5, with a submission deadline set for March 7.
The Anambra PDP governorship primary is scheduled for April 5, followed by an appeal committee meeting on April 8.
However, a source within the PDP, who requested anonymity, informed The PUNCH that potential candidates are refraining from engaging with the party due to ongoing internal conflicts.
The insider indicated that the current leadership turmoil has deterred aspirants from committing to the party.
“At this moment, no candidate has purchased the PDP Anambra governorship nomination forms. They are reluctant due to the party’s instability. The crisis has diminished the party’s influence at various levels, leading to caution among aspirants regarding such a significant financial investment,” the source remarked.
Furthermore, the insider elaborated that the unrest, impacting state chapters, zonal bodies, and national organizations, has undermined confidence in the party’s capacity to conduct a transparent primary.
In light of these developments, another party official revealed that the PDP National Working Committee has adjusted the election schedule, extending the sale of forms to March 10 in an effort to boost participation.
“The NWC is currently assessing the situation, and a revised timetable will be announced by the end of the week. The deadline for form purchases has now been extended to March 10,” the source stated.
Additionally, a stakeholders’ interactive session with the NWC is planned for March 10 at the PDP national headquarters, Wadata Plaza, Abuja.
