6 Parties Win Seats In Rivers State LG Polls As Elected Chairmen Get Sworn In

Six (6) political parties have emerged victorious in yesterday’s local government elections which held across the twenty-three (23) local government areas in Rivers State.

The election results as announced by the Chairman of the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC), Retired Justice Adolphus Enebeli showed that while the APP won in 22 LGAs, the candidate of the Action Alliance, Hon Uzodinma Nwafor won the election in Etche LGA.

Recall that the Chairman of the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC), Retired Justice Adolphus Enebeli had while announcing the results of 22 LGAs on Saturday said that of Etche was delayed and would be announced alongside the Councillorship results later.

Didactic Information Hut reports that for the Councillorship Seats, the APP won 314 seats while other opposition parties including YPP won in ward 5 Degema LGA, APC in ward 3 Okrika LGA, SDP in ward 2 Eleme LGA, Boot Party in ward 8 Ahoada West LGA, and Labour Party in ward 3, Asari Toru LGA.

Earlier on Sunday, RSIEC Chairman had issued Certificates of Return to the 23 newly elected LGA Chairmen in Rivers State.

Meanwhile Rivers State Governor, Sir Sim Fubara on Sunday witnessed the swearing in of the 23 newly elected council Chairmen across the local government areas in the State.

The swearing in ceremony took place at the Executive Council Chambers of the Rivers State Government House and the oath was administered by the Chief Registrar of the Rivers State High Court, David Ihua-Maduenyi.

Those sworn in are;

  1. Abua/Odual – Vincent Reuben Obu
  1. Ahoada-East – Chibudom Ezu.
  1. Ahoada-West – Iyekor Ikporo.
  1. Akuku-Toru – Hon. Mrs. Tonye Oniyide-Briggs (served as Commissioner for culture and tourism under former Gov Wike).
  1. Andoni – Lazarus Gogote Nteogwuile.
  2. Asari-Toru – Sule Amachree.
  3. Bonny – Dame Hon. Anengi Barasua Claude-Wilcox (re-elected)
  4. Degema – Harry Agiriye (former permanent secretary)
  5. Eleme – Brain Gokpa (serving Caretaker Committee Chairman)
  6. Emohua – David Omereji (serving Caretaker Committee Chairman)
  7. Etche – Ongoing Collation
  8. Gokana – Monday Dumiye
  9. Ikwerre – Isreal Abosi
  10. Khana – Martins Nwigbo
  11. Obio/Akpor –Chijioke Ihunwo (serving Caretaker Committee Chairman)
  12. Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni –Prince Isaac Umejuru (served as Commissioner for Urban Development under Gov. Fubara)
  13. Ogu/Bolo – Ishmael Oforibika
  14. Okrika – Igwe Achese (Former NUPENG President)
  15. Omuma – Promise Reginald (serving Caretaker Committee Chairman)
  16. Opobo/Nkoro – Enyiada Cookey-Gam (Re-elected)
  17. Oyigbo – Gift Okere (former leader of the All Progressives Congress)
  18. Port Harcourt – Ezebunwo Ichemati (serving Caretaker Committee Chairman)
  19. Tai –Matthew Nenubari Dike (serving Caretaker Committee Chairman)

Governor Fubara in his address charged the newly sworn in Chairmen to see themselves as servants and not emperors in their various LGAs. He urged them to unite their people and ensure development at the grassroots.

The Governor further advised the new Chairmen to follow his peaceful approach and avoid any provocations from political opponents even as He said He is aware of a plot to mobilise 20 persons per ward to confront them tomorrow and prevent them from resuming at their various secretariats. He added that by doing that they will always win eventually if they are patient.

He also encouraged them to perform above board and not disappoint the confidence reposed in them by the people.

Gov Fubara reiterated his membership of the PDP amidst the desperate situation that resulted in a different party winning majority of the contestable seats in the just concluded local council poll.

He apologised to people who might have been offended by his utterances or actions in the course of the travails that characterised the conduct of the local government election in the state.

The event was witnessed by the Bauchi State Governor, Bala Muhammad, State and National Executives of the APP, top government functionaries.
