2 Catholic Nuns Kidnapped By Gunmen in Anambra

Gunmen have kidnapped two Catholic nuns along Ufuma road in Olumba North LGA of Ambla State. The nuns, identified as Vincentia Nwankwo and Grace Okoli, were said to have been kidnapped on their way back from a vocational group meeting held at Ogbozi community.
A statement on Wednesday by the Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary prayed for their safe release. According to the statement, Nwankwo is the principal of Archbishop Charles Healy Memorial Model Secondary School in Uhuma, while Okoli is a teacher at Immaculata Girls Model Secondary School in Nnewi.
‘It is with sadness that we inform the public that our sisters, Vincentia Maria Nwankwo and Grace Mariette Okoli were kidnapped yesterday evening, Tuesday, January 7, 2025. We entrust our sisters Vincentia Maria and Grace Mariette to the powerful intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary for their speedy release from the hands of their kidnappers. We ask for their fervent prayers and supplications to God for their release and safe return to us as soon as possible. We also ask you to pray for their unconditional release.”
Anambra State Police Spokesman Tochukwu Ikenga said police authorities are still working hard to ensure the safe return of the nuns.
He said, “A joint police-led operation is already underway to rescue two Catholic nuns who were allegedly kidnapped along Ufuma Road in Orumba North Local Government.
The state police commissioner, Nnage Itam, who also inspected the scene of the incident, said that investigations are underway based on several leads to rescue the victims and arrest the suspects.
