119 #EndBadGovernance Protesters Freed As Court Strikes Out Suit
119 #EndBadGovernance protesters who were earlier arrested and arraigned have been released by a Federal High Court in Abuja following the striking out of the suit.
Obiora Egwuatu, the presiding judge, struck out the case after M.D Abubakar, counsel to the attorney-general of the federation (AGF) applied to take over and discontinue the suit.
At the court session on Tuesday, Abubakar prayed the court to allow the AGF take over the charge.
Abubakar said the action was in exercise of the AGF’s power of section 174 of the 1999 Constitution to take over the case from the Inspector General of Police.
The judge therefore ordered the immediate release of the accused from prison.
Didactic Information Hut recalls that President Bola Tinubu had on Monday ordered the AGF to end the charges against the accused persons, most of who are said to be minors and not allowed by law to face such trial.
