Arthur Jarvis University in Akpabuyo, Cross River State, expelled five students and suspended five others for bullying, truancy, and misconduct.
The university emphasized that the punishment reinforces its strict zero-tolerance policy for such offenses.
The decision was the result of a disciplinary hearing following two fights and group bullying incidents that occurred on December 12, 2024 and January 18, 2025, and was announced by Acting President Mary Dan-Abia.
The students involved were summoned before the University’s Disciplinary Committee on January 20, 2025. After a thorough review of the evidence, the committee conferred with key university officials and expelled the five students directly involved in the incident.
In addition, five other students were suspended for various lengths of time (three for one month and two for two weeks). These students subsequently left campus.
This decision follows the chancellor’s recent address to students, in which he urged them to avoid vices and misbehavior.
The chancellor also stated that any student found to be using, possessing, trafficking, or smuggling drugs on campus would be automatically expelled.
Dan-Abia said, “This ruling is a deterrent to other students and a reminder that respect for others and adherence to university rules is non-negotiable. No student should be above the rules.”
