Armed military personnel have seized control of the Rivers State Government House in Port Harcourt, following President Bola Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency on Tuesday evening.

This decision was made in response to the ongoing political turmoil within the state.

Additionally, the president has suspended both Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Ngozi Odu, for an initial duration of six months.

All elected representatives of the Rivers State House of Assembly have also been suspended.

In light of these developments, Tinubu has appointed Vice Admiral Ibokette Ibas (Rtd) as the Administrator responsible for overseeing the state’s affairs.

This announcement was made during a nationwide broadcast, shortly after a meeting with his service chiefs and the Inspector-General of Police at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa, which was followed by military officers arriving in trucks to secure the entrance of the Government House.
