A randy head teacher identified as Benjamin Ogba, was on Tuesday sentenced by Justice Abiola Soladoye of the Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court to life imprisonment for raping two underage girls, who are both seven years old.
The presiding judge ruled that the prosecution had established the elements of taint beyond a reasonable doubt to the satisfaction of the court.
She ruled that the evidence of the defense witnesses was plastered with lies and was not admissible.
Soladoye described the convict as a “serial pedophile” and his testimony as “a pack of lies.”
She said: “The defendant and his fellow defense witnesses were not truthful and credible in their testimony during the trial. Their testimony was a pack of lies and fell apart like a pack of cards.
‘This serial pedophile, a vice principal who is expected to teach morals to his students, has gone so far as to be despicable and defile underage girls. What a shame!
This irresponsible and abusive teacher is teaching his students nonsense.”
The judge also commended the courage of the two survivors who spoke out in court against the perpetrators.
She stated that any sexual abuse must be reported and not buried under the carpet.
Soladoye also urged parents not to hesitate to report cases of sexual abuse to the proper authorities.
Continued education and awareness of this issue of sexual threat must be at the forefront of all stakeholders in the administration of justice to defend the rights of young children,” she said.
‘Defendant was found guilty of two counts of defamation and is sentenced to life in prison on each count.
However, the sentences will run concurrently and the defendant’s name will be entered in the Sexual Offenses Registry maintained by the State of Lagos.”
During the trial, state prosecution counsel Olusola Sonje called three witnesses, while the defense called four witnesses.
According to the prosecutor, the convict committed the crimes sometime between April and May 10, 2019, at Shalom Private School, Oke Ila Road, Ebute Metta, Lagos.
He said Ogba defiled the two survivors by having unlawful sexual intercourse with them.
The prosecutor also said that one of the girls reported the incident to her mother, who reported it to the police station.
According to the prosecutor, the offense contravenes Section 137 of the 2015 Lagos State Penal Code.
