Two Allies of FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike including ousted Senator Samuel Anyanwu, former Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom, and 10 unnamed PDP party members have been invited for questioning.
They are to appear before the party’s disciplinary committee on February 12 to respond to petitions filed by aggrieved party stakeholders. The chairman of the committee, Chief Tom Ikimi, said this in a statement on Thursday that those invited are to appear at the PDP National Campaign Office at the Legacy House in Abuja Maitama.
According to Ikimi’s statement, “The National Discipline Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party met on Wednesday, February 5, 2025, at Legacy House, Maitama, Abuja, pursuant to its mandate under Article 57(1) of the Peoples Democratic Party Constitution (2017 Amendment) on Party Discipline. ‘The National Discipline Committee considered five (5) allegations received so far and after a detailed review of the allegations, the first allegation was against a key member of the National Working Committee (NWC).
The Commission decided to withdraw the three allegations against top members of the NWC so as not to jeopardize the ongoing reconciliation efforts of the Governors’ Forum and the Board of Trustees.
The second petition that was the subject of the hearing was against former Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom and 10 others, as well as Senator Samuel Anyanwu. ‘RESOLVED, therefore, that the National Disciplinary Commission invites all interested parties to attend a meeting of the Commission on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, at the Legacy House, Maitama, Abuja.
Expected to attend are the petitioner and his witnesses on the one hand and the affected party members and their witnesses on the other. The necessary notices were issued accordingly.
The National Discipline Committee is committed to ensuring discipline within the Party and restoring its integrity.” Ikimi added that this committee is constitutionally mandated to handle matters impartially.
He recommended that any party member who has a genuine grievance against a fellow party member should feel free to file a complaint with the committee.
Party officials, however, expressed difficulty with the invitation to Anyanwu and Ortom, key loyalists of Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike.
Their concern stems from the fact that the Ikimi Commission is a dormant commission and has been inactive for a long time. A source at the PDP secretariat, who spoke to this reporter on Thursday, said there would be no other intention behind the sudden awakening of the committee.
The source said, “It is indeed amusing that this committee, which has been asleep for so long, has suddenly awakened to its responsibilities. I just hope it’s not what I think it is. ……” And the source did not want his name printed.
