The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State announced on Sunday that chairpersons affiliated with the party, who were reportedly reinstated following the Court of Appeal ruling on February 10, are to return to their duties at their respective local government secretariats starting Monday.

This instruction was conveyed through a press release from the APC’s Director of Media and Information, Mr. Kola Olabisi, who also urged the chairpersons to ignore misleading information circulating on social media that advised them against returning to their offices in the 30 local government secretariats throughout the state.

The party condemned this misinformation as the work of anti-democratic forces.

Additionally, it is noteworthy that during the swearing-in ceremony for the chairpersons and councillors on Sunday in Oshogbo, Governor Ademola Adeleke instructed the newly elected chairpersons and councillors from the recent local government elections not to take up their positions immediately. He expressed concerns about potential conflicts with individuals whom he claimed the police had assisted in unlawfully occupying the local government secretariats.

The statement read: “Our attention has been drawn to fake news on social media, orchestrated by a supposed democratic state government, claiming that the leadership of the APC in Osun state has directed its elected local government chairmen and councillors not to resume in their various local government council areas tomorrow.

“We want to inform the authentic, Court of Appeal-reinstated local government council chairmen and councillors that no such information came from the esteemed leadership of our party.

“It is the handwork of reactionary elements who believe they can achieve their inordinate political ambitions through the dissemination of fake stories to confuse our focused, elected council bosses and chiefs.

“We want to make it abundantly clear that the elected APC local government chairmen and councillors must resume at their respective local government council areas to continue serving the deprived people at the grassroots level of government. The APC is a party founded on the rule of law, which is why the Court of Appeal judgment delivered at the Akure Division, Akure, Ondo State, on February 10, 2025, is the fundamental basis of your reinstatement.”

The APC has called upon the state Commissioner of Police, the State Director of the Department of State Services, and the State Comptroller of Civil Defence to remain vigilant in order to ensure peace throughout all local government council areas within the state.

Additionally, the party has urged parents and guardians statewide to caution their children and wards against being lured into becoming political thugs by discontented and unsuccessful politicians intent on disrupting the state’s tranquility.
