New COAS, Olufemi Oluyede Gets Confirmed By Senate

The appointment of Lt.-Gen. Olufemi Oluyede by President Bola Tinubu was on Tuesday confirmed by the Senate as the substantive Chief of Army Staff (COAS)
The confirmation follows the adoption of the Committee on Army’s report on Oluyede’s screening report which was presented by the Chairman of the Committee, Sen. Abdulaziz Yar’adua (APC-Katsina).
According to Yar’adua, the committee was pleased by the nominee’s exceptional accomplishments, depth of knowledge, and qualifications.
According to him, Oluyede’s nomination complies with Section 217, Subsection 2 of the Federal Republic of Nigeria’s 1999 Constitution as amended.
Additionally, he stated that the nomination complies with the Armed Forces Act’s Section 18, Subsection 1.
He explained that “the nominee possesses the required competence, experience, and educational qualifications to be conferred with Chief of Army Staff.
According to Yar’adua, the nominee is eligible to hold the post of Chief of Army Staff since he has been approved by the DSS and has completed the proper promotion procedures thus far.
He urged the Senate to approve the nomination, stating that the committee had carefully and painstakingly vetted the candidate and was pleased with his behavior, skill, background, and academic credentials.
Following that, Oluyede’s appointment as substantive COAS was approved by the Senate.
