The Nigerian military has reiterated its commitment to apprehending the notorious bandit leader, Turji Bello, emphasizing that he is currently being pursued and will soon be neutralized.
During an interview on Channels Television’s morning program, The Morning Brief, the Chief of Defence Operations, Major General Emeka Onumajuru, made this announcement on Monday.
Major General Onumajuru indicated that the military is aware of Turji’s whereabouts but refrained from providing further details.
“I must clarify that there is no negotiation or dialogue between Bello Turji and the armed forces.
“As I speak, Bello Turji is in hiding, and the armed forces are actively tracking him. We are continuously monitoring his movements, and it will not be long before he is eliminated,” stated Major General Onumajuru.
He urged the public to exercise patience with the military, noting that the process of tracking a bandit leader can be time-consuming, but assured that Turji’s reign of terror in the Northwestern region will soon come to an end.
Last week, Sokoto State Lawmaker Honourable Aminu Almustapha Boza confirmed Turji’s presence in a forest within the Isa Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
The Lawmaker, who represents the Sabon Birni Local Government Area in the state House of Assembly, informed our correspondent via telephone that Turji has been imposing taxes on the local populace.
In response, Major General Onumajuru has encouraged the residents of Sokoto to disregard Turji’s demands and avoid paying the tax, assuring them of the military’s support and protection.
