The Nigerian military announced that troops from Operation Fansang Yamma have neutralized Aminu Kanawa, second-in-command of notorious terrorist leader Bello Turji, following an ongoing military onslaught against terrorists in the northwest from January 20 to 21, 2025.

According to a statement by Defense Secretary Edward Buba released Wednesday, the troops also mortally wounded two of Turji’s closest allies, Dosso (Belo Turjii’s brother) and Dambokoro (one of Turji’s closest allies).

The military also said it neutralized several key commanders of the Bello Turji: Abu Dan Shehu, Javi Dogo, Dan Kane, Bashir Yellow, Kabir Gebbeh, Belo Buba, Dan Ina Kahon Saniya Yafi Baushe, and others.

According to the statement, no fewer than 24 terrorists who were fleeing from the camps of Gebbeh and Bello Turji around Gebbeh and Isa LGAs of Sokoto State, and Gidan Liziya area of Shinkafi LGA of Zamfara State, were also neutralized.

In an onslaught in the enclave of Bello Turji around Fakai Highlands, the troops also neutralized another notable terrorist. He was named Suleiman and was a loyalist of the late Halil Subbu, a notorious terrorist leader.

The late Suleiman had led a team of reinforcements to rescue the disorganized Belo Turji camp, but was eliminated during a firefight. The deaths of Bello Turji’s lieutenants, close allies, commanders, and fighters are a major blow to the terrorist network and its military and combat capabilities in the country’s northwest.

These terrorist groups are notorious for their numerous kidnappings and terrorist attacks throughout the Northwest, particularly in Zurmi, Shinkafi, Issa, and Sabon Biruni Local Government Areas of Zamfara and Sokoto States.

Buba said the forces will not relent until these terrorists are completely destroyed, adding that their operations are aimed at creating an atmosphere of safety and security for all citizens.
