Man Who Allegedly Stole Pigs Arraigned By Police In Ekiti

On Wednesday, a 30-year-old man, Adeniyi Akinpelu, appeared before Chief Magistrate Ado Ekiti on charges of stealing pigs. The defendant, who has no fixed address, is on trial for theft.

Prosecutor Olub Apata stated that the defendant committed the crime in Ado Ekiti between October 12, 2024 and December 3, 2024.

He stated that the defendant stole five pigs that were in his care.

According to him, the pigs belonged to the complainant, Balogun Opeyemi. The defendant Apata stated that the offense was contrary to Section 302 (1) (a) of the Ekiti State Penal Code of 2021.

He asked the court to adjourn the trial to allow him to study the file and assemble his witnesses.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty. Defense counsel for the defendant, Opeyemi Esan, asked the court to grant bail with the promise that the defendant would not jump bail.

Judge Taiwo Ajibade ruled that the defendant be granted bail in the sum of N200,000 with one surety in like sum. She adjourned the hearing until February 14.
