A chieftain of the Labour Party in Abia State, Engr. Augustine Uchenna Stephen, has been kidnapped by gunmen.

Didactic Information Hut gathered that the kidnapping occurred on Thursday evening while Stephen was driving home from work. The assailants reportedly ambushed him, pointed a gun at him, and forcibly took him and his vehicle to an unknown location. His vehicle was later found abandoned along the Umuahia-Aba expressway.

Stephen, a native of Umuogo Ubakala in Umuahia South Local Government Area of Abia State, is a prominent businessman and politician based in Port Harcourt and Umuahia.

He was a former aide to Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, the immediate past governor of Abia State, of the PDP before joining the labour Party in March 2024.

Meanwhile, Stephen’s abductors are yet to established contact with his family as at press time. Residents have been recently living in fear following unending security breaches with escalating cases of kidnapping, car snatching, and violent crimes in Umuahia and Aba; major cities in the State.
