Idris Elba To Star In “Things Fall Apart” Series Film Adaptation

British Actor, Idris Elba will play Okonkwo, the protagonist of Chinua Achebe’s classic novel “Things Fall Apart,” in a new TV series adaptation by American entertainment company, A24.
Elba, who will also produce the series, is known for his work on “Thor,” “Suicide Squad,” “Pacific Rim,” and “Beasts of No Nation.
He has also earned acclaim for his work on popular TV series such as “THE WIRE” and “LUTHER”.
He played Nelson Mandela in the 2013 biopic Mandela: He also played Nelson Mandela in the 2013 biopic Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom.
Variety exclusively reported the development on Thursday, noting that while no screenwriter is currently attached to the project, the film adaptation is still in its early stages and no streaming service or network has yet been selected.
According to Variety, the official description of “Things Fall Apart” reads, “The story of Okonkwo (Elba), one of literature’s most iconic characters. Okonkwo’s struggle to maintain power and tradition as the British colonizers destroy his world spirals into a heart-wrenching confrontation. His fierce determination is a fatal flaw in the face of unstoppable change, making him an unforgettable character who embodies the tension between strength, weakness, and adaptability.”
Elba, along with Gina Carter, will serve as executive producers for the 22Summers production company.
David Oyelowo and Amanda Nduka will also serve as executive producers through Yoruba Saxon, with Ben Faulkner, Dayo Ogunyemi, and Achebe Masterworks as additional executive producers.

Didactic Information Hut recalls that Things Fall Apart was first adapted into a film in 1971 and later a miniseries in 1987, starring famed Nigerian actor Pete Edochie as Okonkwo, Umuofia’s wrestling champion.
