Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo has promised the families of the 16 hunters who lost their lives in Uromi that he will ensure they receive full compensation for their tragic loss.

Accompanied by Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and other prominent officials, Governor Okpebholo visited Torankawa in the Bunkure Local Government Area to express his condolences. During this visit, he also committed to providing financial assistance and food supplies to the grieving families.

Expressing his outrage over the killings of these innocent individuals, Okpebholo declared in the village that those responsible for the brutal acts would face justice.

“We will make certain that justice is delivered to those accountable for this atrocious crime,” he asserted.

In a related development, hundreds of family members and supporters organized a peaceful protest, carrying signs with messages such as “We demand justice for the killings of our people,” “Hunters are not criminals,” and “We seek swift justice in this case.”

The protesters filled the road leading to Torankawa village, articulating their demands. Numerous hunters, equipped with their hunting gear, participated in the peaceful demonstration.

Additionally, some placards displayed messages like “Killings in the North must cease,” “Northerners are peace-loving citizens,” and “Justice must prevail.”

A number of hunters, visibly upset, chanted war songs and displayed their weapons as the governor’s convoy passed by, while local residents worked to maintain order during the event.
