AC Milan announced the sack of coach Paulo Fonseca after a 1-1 draw with Roma to finish eighth in Serie A.
The Rossoneri had a difficult start to the season under the Portuguese coach, finishing 14 points behind leaders Atalanta and Napoli.
He took over in June from Stefano Pioli, who led Milan to second place in the league last season and their first league title in 11 years in 2022.
The club announced his dismissal in a statement on Monday, hours after Sunday’s 1-1 draw against Roma at the San Siro.
The statement reads: “AC Milan announces that Paulo Fonseca has been relieved from his duties as Head Coach of the Men’s First Team. The club extends its gratitude to Paulo for his great professionalism and wishes him the very best in his future endeavours.”
