Against Court Order, APC Holds State Congress As Okocha Wins

Despite a court order restricting the APC national leadership from conducting any congresses in Rivers State, the Tony Okocha-led faction of the party has proceeded with its state congress today.
Didactic Information Hut recalls that a Rivers State High Court in Port Harcourt had issued an ex parte order restraining APC national chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje and the party from holding elective congresses for the Rivers State chapter without including the claimants in a pending legal case.
The interim injunction further barred the defendants from conducting the scheduled congresses on November 23 and 30, 2024, or any other date, pending the determination of the substantive suit.
The matter was instituted by Okwu Joebrown-Ndike, Peace Oganu, and Samuel Uchegbule, who alleged exclusion despite paying for nomination forms to contest in the congresses.
The Okocha-led faction proceeded with the congresses in total disobedience to the legal directive.
As at the time of filing this report, the state congress holding at the factional APC secretariat on the Port Harcourt-Aba Expressway has led to the emergence of Chief Tony Okocha as the new Substantive State Chairman of the APC in Rivers State.
Meanwhile, the duly elected executive led by Chief Emeka Beke, who are loyal to former Rivers Governor Rotimi Amaechi, are insisting that their tenure will end in 2025, therefore they cannot be removed.
