Nigeria Is The 36th World’s Most Corrupt Country – Transparency International

Transparency International, a global organization against corruption, ranked Nigeria as the 36th most corrupt country in the world.
Nigeria tied with Uganda, Mexico, Madagascar, Iraq, and Cameroon with a combined score of 26. The rankings released Tuesday focused on the 2024 Corruption Perceptions Index.
The least corrupt country was Denmark with a score of 90, followed by Finland in second place with a score of 88, and Singapore in third place with a score of 84.
African countries did not make the top 10, as European countries dominated the list. However, Cape Verde topped the list of least corrupt African countries, despite being in 35th place with 62 points.
South Sudan, Somalia, and Venezuela were the most corrupt countries in the world over the past year. Citing the rationale for the selection and the results, François Valeria, president of Transparency International, said, “The 2024 Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) shows that corruption is a dangerous problem in all regions of the world, but change for the better is happening in many countries.
The study also reveals that corruption is a major threat to climate action. Corruption hinders emissions reductions and adaptation to the inevitable effects of global warming. The CPI ranks 180 countries and regions around the world according to the degree of public sector corruption.
Results are presented on a scale from 0 (highly corrupt) to 100 (very clean). Valeria further asserted that while 32 countries have significantly reduced their corruption levels since 2012, 148 countries have stagnated or worsened over the same period, and there is still a large amount of work to be done, adding that “the global average of 43 has also remained static for years, while over two-thirds of countries are below 50 Billions of people are still suffering from corruption. Billions of people live in countries where corruption is destroying people’s lives and undermining human rights.”
