Man Who Grabbed A Minor’s Br£asts Jailed For 10 Years in Lagos
A man named Bamidele Folorunsho was found guilty and given a 10-year prison sentence on Wednesday by the Lagos State Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court in Ikeja for sexually assaulting a juvenile by stroking her breasts and rubbing her anus.
Folorunsho was found guilty on two revised counts that the Lagos State Government had brought against him by Justice Rahman Oshodi, who delivered the verdict.
In October 2021, the convicted individual who was first accused of defiling a 12-year-old girl in February 2018 was arraigned and entered a not guilty plea to the crime.
But when the matter was heard on Wednesday, O. Aluko, the state’s prosecutor, informed the judge that the prisoner had chosen to accept a plea deal.
After that, Folorunsho was re-arraigned on two revised counts that bordered on sexual assault by fondling the victim’s breasts with his hands and indecent treatment by touching her anus with his hands.
Aluko, the prosecutor, told the court that on December 12, 2024, the parties reached a plea and sentencing agreement.
Aluko told the court that Dr. Babajide Martins, the Director of Public Prosecutions, had approved a 10-year prison term.
“My Lord, the prosecution did not call any witnesses before Folorunsho accepted the plea bargain agreement and he was remanded on March 22, 2018,” she said.
Aluko said the plea bargain required filing an amended charge.
The judge questioned Folorunsho about his comprehension of the terms of his guilty plea and the court’s duty to impose the harshest penalties possible for the offences.
Folorunsho acknowledged that he was satisfied with his attorney’s advise and that he made the plea deal voluntarily and cautiously.
“We apply for a plea bargain for Folorunsho, and we beg the court to grant the plea bargain,” stated defence attorney M.I. Alagbala.
After being handed the amended charge, he entered a guilty plea.
According to the prosecution, the convicted person’s actions violated Sections 135 and 263 of the Lagos State 2015 Criminal Law.
Justice Oshodi sentenced the convict to 10 years imprisonment having found him guilty of the offences.
“I have found you guilty based on your plea in the amended information dated December 11, 2024. I have carefully considered the plea bargain agreement and your show of remorse.
“I sentence you to 10 years imprisonment which will commence from March 22, 2018, and your name should be registered as a sex offender,” Oshodi ruled.
