Two Commissioners, Others Suspended Over Alleged Misconduct
Francis Nwifuru, the governor of Ebonyi State, has suspended two commissioners from his cabinet after they were accused of egregious misconduct and duty neglect.
Jude Chikadibia-Okpor, the state commissioner for information and orientation, announced this in a press release on Tuesday.
Engineer Francis Ori, the Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, was suspended indefinitely by Governor Nwifuru, while his colleague Dr. Moses Ekuma, the Commissioner for Health and Social Development, was suspended for three months.
The executive secretaries of the state primary healthcare development agency, the state health insurance agency, and the permanent secretary of the ministry of health will also be placed on a three-month suspension.
The Special Assistant to the Governor on Primary Health has been instructed to oversee the Ministry of Health in the suspended commissioner’s absence in light of this development.
Okpor claims that the suspended officials have been instructed to turn over all government assets, including automobiles, to the State Secretary of the Government by the end of business on Monday, November 25, 2024, at the latest.
In order to emphasize that his administration is dedicated to the needs of the people, Governor Nwifuru had previously suspended Water Resources Commissioner Chinedum Nkah indefinitely for failing to fulfill his duties.
