Meanwhile, the Panel of Inquiry established by Interior Minister Olubunmi Tunji Ojo has announced that popular transvestite actor Idris Okuney, widely known as Bobrisky, has served his sentence.
Uju Agomoh, a member of the Commission of Inquiry and Executive Director and founder of Prisoners’ Rehabilitation and Welfare Action, who read out the Commission of Inquiry’s Phase I report on Monday, said the Commission of Inquiry found no evidence that Bobrisky slept outside the prison walls after completing his sentence. He stated that the committee found no evidence that Bobrisky slept outside the prison walls after completing his sentence.
He said, “The panel did not find any evidence thus far that suggested that Mr Okuneye slept outside the custodial centre during the period of his imprisonment, which was from 12th April 2024 to 5th August 2024, which is a six-month correctional sentence with the usual remission applicable”.
Agomoh said that during this period, Bobrisky was transferred from Kuje Detention Center to a medium security detention center in Kirikiri Apapa, Lagos, and then to a maximum security detention center, from which he was discharged at the end of his sentence.
He said Bobrisky enjoyed several privileges while in both detention centers, including a furnished cell, a humidifier, and numerous visits by family and friends.
However, the commission said the transfer of the transvestite to a maximum security facility as a first-time offender violated Sections 164A and 164B of the Nigerian Correctional Services Act of 2019.
