Mr. Adeboye Taofiq Ewenla, who was an Aide to the Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has been sacked for allegedly demanding N30m bribe from timber merchants.
Ewenla who was the Special Assistant on Forestry (Central Senatorial District) to the Governor was reportedly caught on tape demanding the money before the Ondo timber merchants be allowed to operate.
According to government sources, this telephone conversation was sent to Governor Aiyeda Tiwa after the merchants chose to confront him.
In the conversation with the timber traders, Ewenla reportedly told the traders not to start working in the forest without paying them.
According to a statement by Ebenezer Adeniyan, Chief Press Secretary to Governor Aiyeda Tiwa, the dismissal was in response to allegations of bribery and intimidation against Mr. Ewenla by timber merchants in the state.
The statement said Governor Aiyedatiwa ordered an investigation into the activities of those responsible for managing the state’s forest reserves.
“A replacement for Mr. Ewenla will be announced in due course.
“The Governor urged all political appointees to conduct themselves in line with the provisions of the law and rules guiding their duties,” the statement reads in parts.
