Hon.Brian Odey, the lawmaker representing Yala state constituency 1 in Cross River State House of Assembly has defected from the Labour Party to the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.

Didactic Information Hut reports that Hon Odey was over the weekend formally welcomed to the APC by its State leadership in a grand event.

Hon. Odey joined the APC in Yahe Ward of Yala LGA.

The lawmaker’s defection was blamed on the crises rocking both the National and State leadership of the Labour Party. The crisis is heightened in Cross River State that both factions led by Ogar Osim and John Ushie have told the Cross River State Independent Electoral Commission, CROSIEC, that they are ready to field candidates for upcoming Council elections on October 25, 2024.

Also received into the APC fold was the lawmaker representing Yala 2 State Constituency, Hon. Martins Achadu.

Receiving them, Speaker of the Assembly, Elvert Ayambem described their defection as a strategic decision for the APC, describing both as experienced lawmakers and passionate for their constituencies.

“Brian’s arrival is not only a personal joy for me, but it is also a victory for the APC. His dedication and commitment to his constituents will undoubtedly contribute to the growth and success of our party,” the Speaker remarked.

Didactic Information Hut reports that two other members of the House of Assembly also dumped the PDP and joined the APC too.
